Advanced Transport Cost Configuration

Before reading this article, we recommend watching the introductory Transport Cost Configuration article in the Knowledge Base, which covers setting your default transport costs.

Overview

The Advanced Transport Cost menu lets you override default transport cost settings for a specific lane, defined by a pair of Location Types. In your network, costs may vary by lane. For example, in the Movement Set shown in the video, shipping Materials from Suppliers to Factories is less expensive than other lanes.

Configuring a Single Lane

To begin, scroll down to the bottom of the Transport Costs configuration page and click on the Advanced Transport Costs drop-down menu. This will then show you all the lanes available in the Movement Set.

Select the lane you want to override from its drop-down menu. The current default costs will be displayed. You can then modify costs for specific tiers within that lane. For example, in the video we update costs for the Medium and Large tiers of a Road lane between Suppliers and Factories.

This overwrite applies exclusively to flows between Suppliers and Factories. A purple indicator marks any lane where a default has been overridden.

Using the Assistant for Bulk Configuration

The assistant feature lets you overwrite values across multiple lanes at once. Specify the tier(s), source location type, destination location type, and flow type you want to target. You can also specify whether you want to update fixed costs, variable costs or both.

In the video example, to configure all flows directed to retailers with a fixed cost only:

  1. Select both the Medium and Large transport tiers.
  2. Set source/destination pairs: Distribution Centres → Retailers (Packaged Products) and Treatment Centres → Treated Goods Retailers (Treated Products).
  3. Choose Fixed, Variable, or Both from the type dropdown.
  4. Enter your values. For example, £10 fixed cost and £0 variable cost.

The relevant lanes update immediately and are marked with a purple indicator.

Saving

Click Save to apply changes to the Scenario. The Transport Cost section will reflect your updated configuration.
